Northam train care facility in Southampton is one of eight maintenance depots in the UK that keep over 370 trains safe and reliable for the travelling public.
Siemens commissioned YellowSpanner a Cambridge based Events Company to produce a behind the scenes video depicting 24 hours in the life of a depot – watch the result here http://youtu.be/3oDFHy5jzTs
Given full access to the depot the team used a variety of camera equipment including 3 Go-Pro cameras which were attached above, below and on the side of travelling trains. The time-lapse was captured by two DSLR cameras and conventional film cameras on rails and dollies completed the mix.
The depots busiest time is at night so the film crew worked on shifts over 3 days to insure every detail was captured. Jamie of WaveFX commented “This was a long shoot but worth it. We really didn’t know what we’d get from the Go-Pros, especially when a 250 ton train rolls over but the footage looks great and a big thank you to the YellowSpanner team for inviting us along”
